Netra News has confirmed the deaths of 26 individuals in a single day as a result of police and ruling party attacks on students protesting for quota reforms in public sector jobs across Bangladesh. This figure is from July 18th (Thursday) alone, and the overall death toll from the ongoing protests is higher.

The number of deaths is expected to rise further as reports of unidentified victims continue to emerge and verified by our reporters. The confirmation comes after thorough corroboration of information and videos shared on social media, as well as press releases and various news sources.

Among the deceased on July 18th are two journalists and several other professionals, with the majority being students.

The latest violence adds to the death toll from the previous days, with seven more students killed on July 16th and July 17th, bringing the confirmed total to at least 33 deaths over the course of the protests.

The situation remains tense as the nation grapples with the aftermath of these brutal clashes, with authorities enacting a complete internet shutdown.
